Troy Community Chorus offers the Shirley Darge Memorial Scholarship each Spring to talented young vocalists!
SPRING 2026
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
~ LANA LANZANAS ~
Lana Lanzanas, a previous winner of this scholarship when she was a freshman, is now a senior at Athens High School where she is cast as Fantine in the upcoming joint Troy High/Troy Athens production of Les Misérables. She has also held leads in previous Troy Athens musicals, which led to her nominations in 2023 and 2025 for the Sutton Foster Awards, a celebration of high school musical theatre across the State of Michigan.
In addition to the TCC Scholarship, Lanzanas has received first place in the 2025 Madrigal Chorale scholarship competition, second place in the Michigan Federation of Music Clubs competition, scholarships to attend Interlochen Music Camp, and an 2025-26 internship with the Rackham Choir.
Performing as a singer since she was 5 years old, Lanzanas began formal voice training in 2022 and joined the Detroit Opera Youth Chorus in 2024. She plans to apply her scholarship award to the cost of her tuition at the University of Michigan, where she will be attending in the fall as a Voice/Opera Performance major.
Troy Community Chorus annually awards a monetary scholarship to a deserving high school student, residing in or attending a school in Troy. This year, we have increased the scholarship amount to $1,500.00.
The scholarship application process includes completing an application, obtaining three (3) personal recommendations, and auditioning with the Troy Community Chorus board members. The scholarship award recipient agrees to use the funds for their music education and to perform in the Troy Community Chorus Spring Concert.
Who is eligible for the scholarship?
Applicants must be a high school student living within and/or attending school in the City of Troy. This scholarship award is designed to further the applicant’s musical education or training in Vocal Music.
What do I need to do to be considered for the scholarship?
Complete the Troy Community Chorus Vocal Music Scholarship Application
Ask three individuals (school teacher, music teacher, etc.) if they will provide personal recommendations for you. If so, have them complete the Troy Community Chorus Vocal Music Scholarship Personal Recommendation Form.
Email your scholarship application and three personal recommendation forms to George Marck in February 2027. Specific date to be determined as soon as it becomes available.
Auditions with the Troy Community Chorus board members will be held in March in the Troy Athens High School Choir Room. You will be asked to sing a musical selection that best showcases your vocal skills. You will need to provide your accompanying music. Generally, students bring the music on their phones. However, there will be a piano available if needed.
What are the commitments of the scholarship winner?
The award recipient will agree to use the scholarship toward their music education, as well as agree to perform at the Troy Community Chorus Spring Concert in April or May, 2027. Specific date to be determined as soon as it becomes available.
