Troy Community Chorus offers the Shirley Darge Memorial Scholarship each Spring to talented young vocalists!

SPRING 2025
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

~ OMAR ATASI ~

Omar is a junior at Troy Athens High School. He joined his school choir in the sixth grade. COVID-19 interrupted his choir and theatre plans during his seventh and eighth-grade years. After being cast as Ren McCormack in Footloose, Omar was nominated for the Sutton Foster Awards, one of the highest musical theatre competitions in Michigan. This year, he was cast as Bob Wallace in White Christmas and was again nominated for a Sutton Foster Award.

In addition to singing the national anthem at multiple school events, Omar has participated in several college workshops including one at AMDA led by a Broadway performer and another at OCC led by a Broadway composer.

Omar plans to use the scholarship to continue and pay for his weekly voice lessons.

Troy Community Chorus annually awards a monetary scholarship to a deserving high school student, residing in or attending a school in Troy.

The scholarship application process includes completing an application, obtaining three (3) personal recommendations, and auditioning with the Troy Community Chorus board members. The scholarship award recipient agrees to use the funds for their music education and to perform in the Troy Community Chorus Spring Concert.

Scholarship auditions are now closed
for our Spring 2025 Season.
